Your husband is anti-social
On Friday night, Wayne realized we were parked out front in one of the commercial spots so he went out to move the car with Drake in tow. Right after they stepped out, there was a knock on the door. I thought it was Wayne fucking around with me because he often does, and we don’t have a peephole so I opened the door ready to tease the shit out of Wayne only to find some guy who looked like...

You look like Fuzzy!
littlealaska: You look like my baby, Fuzzy. She lived 15 years and was an amazing, sweet kitty. She probably would have lived longer if my mum’s neighbors weren’t a bunch of dickheads who raised fighting pitbulls and didn’t bother to fence their backyard properly. Fuzzy was picked up my her spine and thrown around like a rag doll. Her legs were paralyzed and when I picked...

Window Display of Shame
whatsurdamage: “Every time I’m in the bookstore, and I visit the occult section, all I see is a big ol’ giant wall of Oprah’s magnum opus, The Secret. This is not an occult book; this a fictional children’s story about positive thinking and there are no demons or dragons in it anywhere. (I won’t be fooled again, Oprah! *shakes fist*)” (via Kenny Blogginz @ Shakesville) Totally agreed about The...

Dissertation Title →
Sorry I would’ve reblogged but I don’t remember who posted this originally. Anyway, I goofed around and tried it out and got: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami: #1: Ablist Degeneration and the Suppression of Transgressive Oppression in Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle #2: Absent Symbol and the Absence of Promiscuous Hegemony in Haruki Murakami’s...

Is JGL too old to play Peter Parker? Marc Webb may... →
peachinbeantown: I saw this coming, and while I was ECSTATIC at the fact that a) there will be more Spider-man movies and b) Webb is directing, I’m going to have give this idea a thumbs down. I love Joe, really, but he’s almost 30. There’s no way he can pull off being in high school — Tobey Maguire barely did in the first Spider-man. ~My vote still stands for Anton Yelchin~ Olivia...

Afternoon Piss
Me: ... I have a lot of friends who became housewives...
Cindy: Yeah...
Me: ... and they always brag about being able to take afternoon naps. (In baby voice) I love my afternoon naps, (regular voice) but all I have time for is an afternoon urination.
Cindy proceeds to laugh while I attempt to sip my coffee, but as I look into the hall I realize one of the more timid, but really cool nurses has heard my joke and he looks completely shocked. I almost choke and then Tom laughs.
Tom later returned and asked if I managed my afternoon urination and my entire room roars in laughter.

Create a Morning Writing Ritual
the-write-idea: By: Leo Babauta If you’re like most writers, you procrastinate. You have a hard time getting started writing, unless you’re seized by a burst of inspiration. Instead, you might do some “research” online, fiddle with your to-do list, or work on a number of other tasks instead of doing the writing you need to do. If you’re having trouble getting your writing done, try creating a...

someone that young can have cancer
I have been looking into Michael C. Hall’s diagnosis (dx) mainly because I have a number of Hodgkin’s lymphoma patients (pts) and I <3 MCH so I want to make sure he’s doing well. Due to HIPAA, there’s no information about if he completed chemotherapy or simply just a round of chemo. Since MCH states his dx is in remission I will assume it was a complete chemo tx he was...

Five emotions you never knew you had  →
madeofstarstuff: victoriaisamess: Some emotional states only have names in particular languages. Here are some examples: Fiero (Italian): contented pride in achieving something just for oneself. Amae (Japanese): the sweet feeling of being dependent on someone else. Naches (Yiddish): the glow of proud pleasure that only a child can give to its parents. Schadenfreude (German): the feeling...

Spanish Proficiency Test (unofficial) →
By the creators of Before You Know It, here is an unofficial SLPT. I have some discrepancies with BYKI’s dialects in Japanese and Spanish, so I take what I learn with a grain of salt and I always make sure to utilize other resources so that I get a well-rounded experience in whatever language I’m studying. Here’s a little background: I took four years of Spanish from 8th grade...

My mini-vacation
I decided sometime last month that I wanted to take some days off the week before school starts again. Luckily, I chose this Tuesday through Thursday to complete my plan. Why didn’t I just ask for Monday and Friday as well? Mainly because my boss is the type of person who would approve Monday and Friday, but then turn around the day before you go on vacation and inform you that sadly...

Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) →
My goal is to complete Level 4 within the next six to eight months and Level 3 within the next 18 months - yes, I’m overestimating here. The website estimates that you can complete L4 after three semesters (Y2S1 completed) and L3 after six semesters (Y3S2 completed). If I’m lucky, I’ll be ahead of both their schedule and my own.

Swedish to Japanese
I finished up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo just a moment ago. It was about 600 pages but the momentum hit around 200 pages in, before that there was a lot of character development. If I knew a lick of Swedish I would’ve read [the book] in its original publication since some linguistic and dialect puns were lost in translation (similar to Midori telling Toru that he talks weird in...

esteindesign: I watched the movie Man on Wire the other night. It’s a documentary about a tightrope walker who performed a high-wire routine between the World Trade Center’s twin towers in 1974. Incredible to think this actually happened. In mid-movie [of this] right now. So crazy!

being on a diet means i look better naked.
(via piratekitten) I have always looked better naked so does that mean I’ve always been on a diet? I just thought it meant fashion designers didn’t know how to work with any other female body besides matchstick women.

Leave it to NYU to be have the most awesome library - you guys turning into the Japan of college campuses? Thank you for reporting, Feministe. :-) My friend worked at the UCLA campus during undergrad. Some of the many awesome things about her job were the books made out of human skin and Marilyn Monroe’s psychiatric [then sealed] clinic notes. Aww, nerds.
