This is a very subtle hint that I not only need to go, I need to encourage others! :-) I have the time off, my passports going, and now I just need some mates to meet up for coffee or tea with.

ESL teachers abroad
When I was still living in Sacramento and going to my weekly Japanese language meet-ups, a few people from our sessions were “auditioning” for JET. [JET] seemed to have a slightly more stern approach to their prerequisites, but I have heard of Japanese ESL companies that have the same mentality as the Chinese companies in this article.
I think it’s a bummer that if you know the language of the country you’re going to it pretty much disqualifies you, hence one of my JLM friends faked not knowing Japanese (she’s bilingual and it was her undergrad major at UCR) so she could get the job.

In case you’ve ever wanted a couple of other examples of [almost] homophones and a blog about living as a ‘foreigner’ abroad.
My goal is to complete Level 4 within the next six to eight months and Level 3 within the next 18 months - yes, I’m overestimating here. The website estimates that you can complete L4 after three semesters (Y2S1 completed) and L3 after six semesters (Y3S2 completed). If I’m lucky, I’ll be ahead of both their schedule and my own.
